Yeah, Madoka is a good example of a show I didnt like and felt was trying way too hard. Didnt help almost the entire cast was unlikable on top of it. Lots of people ate that shit up though. Pretty sure theyre still finding ways to milk that gravy train too. I wish the actual good Shaft shows were even half as popular :(

I liked lots of the characters in Akame. Esdeath was especially awesome. Maybe they weren't developed as well in the anime.

And I'm glad I finally have something I can point to as an argument that I don't automatically hate dour things! What usually bothers me about grim stories is that quite often people are either evil for no actual reason or they're so over-the-top edgy that it just makes me angry. Here, despite how harsh a lot of the revelations were, I could see how they logically came to those conclusions and understand why they were acting that way. Nothing was used solely to create melodrama or bad feelings, both just naturally arose from the characters and their shitty situation.

Hmm, I can see MGRP falling into that category, but I don't think Madoka really did...

I always found it kinda dumb when Jude would do something action hero-esque, since he's supposed to be a doctor, not one of the strongest warriors in the world. I think it would've been more interesting if they'd focused more on him being a doctor rather than a fighter.

I use Evasive Maneuvers about half the time. Usually I use it when I'm going through lower level areas so I'm not stuck killing enemies for basically no reward.

No, just Scrutinize is a Rogue option and thus is percentage based with penalties for failing, and Inquire is a Noble action and will always succeed so long as you're a high enough level. It's the same for Guide/Allure.

Strange. I mean, I understand why they'd make a difference, but Inquire works on almost everyone, and Scrutinize can still fail even in early towns when you're at a high level.

You do a character's chapter 1 -> recruit the next character and do their chapter 1 -> move on until you've done all 8 chapter 1s, than start chapter 2s, normally.

Technically you could do a character's whole story without recruiting others, but it'd be insanely grindy.

Ophilia and H'aanit are right next to each other so it'll be easy to recruit one after starting with the other. I'd recommend starting with Ophilia and moving counter-clockwise, personally.
